Pickup trucks in the south have been a staple since the early 20th century, if not longer. It began as an easier means to transport materials and has turned into a popular means of transportation. In the south, you’ll see both men and women alike driving trucks. So, why do so many people love driving trucks in Madison, Alabama?
Transporting Large Materials/Equipment
For anyone that works in a field that requires transportation of larger objects, trucks are extremely useful. These types of materials could range from tools, construction materials, furniture, farming equipment, plants and more. The flatbeds in trucks allow for more space and an easier loading process, where sports cars or even SUVs don’t.
Offroading
Others simply own a truck for it’s rough terrain abilities. Living in the south, people enjoy mud riding, hill climbing, and more outdoor activities that require a four-wheel drive vehicle. Trucks make it easy to access these remote or rough terrains, whereas smaller vehicles wouldn’t be able to. For people who don’t have the budget to own an all-terrain-vehicle (ATV), they usually opt for a vehicle that can do both jobs, such as a heavy duty truck.
Transporting Other Vehicles
As mentioned above, outdoor activities are a big thing in the south. Whether it’s boating, riding, camping, etc, people need ways to transport their other toys. If you own a boat, RV or ATV that needs to be transported on a trailer or behind a large vehicle, trucks are the easiest way to solve the issue. They make a quick trip to the lake or beach simple, just hook up and load the trailer and you’re on your way. Many people have seen the benefits of owning a truck for this reason alone.
Style
While some may have a specific reason for needing a large truck as a primary vehicle, others purchase one just for the style aspect. Believe it or not, it has become a sort of trend in the south to drive big trucks, and to some, the larger the better. Many customize their trucks to have big wheels, a higher lift, and more absorbent shocks.
Ford conducted a survey to 2,000 pickup truck owners and the results were telling. 54% of owners were men with 46% being women, pretty close in comparison. 82% of respondents said they would give up their favorite streaming platform, such as Netflix, before giving up their keys to their pickup truck. If that doesn’t tell you how much Americans love their trucks, nothing will.
